WEEK ONE: TAKING TEAMS FOR A TEST RIDE
GAME 01: BLACK (1-0) vs. BLUE (0-1)
Final Score: 63 to 55 for BLACK Both teams came out looking to make an early statement in the new season but we forgot to take the lids of the rims. Not a single basket was scored in the opening shift but with the change of lines they started to fall. Both teams made runs throughout the game but in the end it was the reigning MVP, Kyle Zinck (29pts), that took over the game and gave Black the decisive lead it needed. Tyler Dylan (17pts) did his best to keep Blue close but in the end Black was too much and garnered the 63 to 55 victory. MEN OF THE MATCH: K.Zinck, Black & T.Dylan, Blue GAME 02: GOLD (1-0) vs. GREEN (0-1)
Final Score: 73/61 to 42/41 for GOLD This was a game of balance and teamwork, with one team demonstrating both and the other team just not quite connecting. Gold moved the ball well and worked together while Green struggled to figure out who was going to bring balance to the team. Wendell Weir (14pts) started the campaign strongly, helping Gold find their pace, while James Quick (9pts) tried to disrupt their game flow with little luck. Even after the sub adjustment Gold managed to capture their first win of the season, 73 to 42. MEN OF THE MATCH: W.Weir, Gold & J.Quick, Green GAME 03: ORANGE (0-1) vs. PURPLE (1-0) Final Score: 68-62 for PURPLE Two high octane teams were looking to put their mark on the season. Purple opened up hot and with the early run built a solid lead that Orange tried to claw back, drawing within four at the half. Unfortunately for Orange that would be the closest they would get as a solid team effort led by Tyler Smith (23pts) kept Orange from closing the gap. Mackenzie Carver (19pts) paced the Orange comeback effort but it wasn't enough to overtake the balanced Purple team effort and Purple finished the game with the win, 68 to 62. MEN OF THE MATCH: M.Carver, Orange & K.Mader, Purple |
WEEK TWO: SIX DAYS LATER
GAME 01: GREEN (0-2) vs. ORANGE (1-1)
Final Score: 68 to 63/59 for ORANGE Week One saw both teams play strong but inconsistently, which cost both teams early wins in the season. Orange played an inside-out game with early inside play that opened up the three-point line later in the game. Green played a tight, sharp game to keep this game tight until the end. Orange's balanced lines managed to be the difference as they escaped with the solid 68 to 63 victory. MEN OF THE MATCH: D.Dexter, Green & J.Boland, Orange GAME 02: BLACK (1-1) vs. GOLD (2-0)
Final Score: 68/65 to 52 for GOLD Gold's first week rhythm wasn't an accident as it carried over to Week Two. Black wanted to run but Gold stifled that, making it a battle in the half-court game. Gold's power defence opened up a sizeable lead but late in the game Black made a push to make the game close. In the end, the early hole cost Black this game and allowed Gold to be the only undefeated team with the 68 to 52 victory. MEN OF THE MATCH: M.Trethewey, Black & S.Hubley, Gold GAME 03: BLUE (1-1) vs. PURPLE (1-1) Final Score: 62/53 to 54 for BLUE Both teams were looking to make a statement as Blue looked to bounce back after a loss and Purple tried to stay hot in the early season. Blue was the team that looked poised and collected on this particular night, surprising the high octane Purple team, who in the end couldn't play as they did in Week One. Purple would steal a point on the final basket but Blue earned their first victory of the season, 62 to 54. MEN OF THE MATCH: A.Johnson, Blue & T.Smith, Purple |
WEEK THREE: AFTER THE CHOCOLATE HIGH ...
GAME 01: GOLD (2-1) vs. PURPLE (2-1)
Final Score: 71 to 59/57 for PURPLE Gold was running hot while Purple was looking to find that consistent feel. The first half was dictated by Gold who picked the pace and looked to be in full control. This game was the tale of two halves as Purple began to spread the court and behind the hot long distance shooting of Tyler Smith (26pts). In the end, the undefeated fell despite a powerful game from Damon Wamboldt (36pts) and Purple rediscovered its winning ways with the 71 to 59 win. MEN OF THE MATCH: D.Wamboldt, Gold & T.Smith, Purple GAME 02: BLUE (1-2) vs. ORANGE (2-1)
Final Score: 62 to 55 for ORANGE Both teams were looking to grab their share of the league lead with Gold losing in the opener but at the same time were missing key players in the this Week Three match-up. Orange would use the confusion to their advantage, coaching their way to positive match-ups on the court that allowed them to control the tempo of the game all night long. With everyone hitting the score sheet, Orange cruised to the victory and a spot at the top of the table with a 62 to 55 win. MEN OF THE MATCH: E.Monahan, Blue & C.Wile, Orange GAME 03: BLACK (2-1) vs. GREEN (0-3) Final Score: 77/76 to 55 for BLACK Green normally likes to shoot the ball from distance but on this night they went at the heart of the Black defense. Black kept the game close in the first half and in the second half Green changed tactics to the long range game, which wasn't working for them. Black used that as their way back into the game and stormed back in a strong way. Half time means you only did half the work and Black reminded Green of that fact as they captured the 77 to 55 victory. MEN OF THE MATCH: H.Young, Black & J.Oickle, Green |
WEEK FOUR: THE LOST ARE FOUND
GAME 01: BLUE (2-2) vs. GREEN (0-4)
Final Score: 68 to 49 for BLUE Green continued to struggle from behind the arc and all night it cost them their flow in the game. Their one bright spot was Alex Slauenwhite (20pts) but he wasn't enough to counter the four Blue players who were rolling on all cylinders . Blue played solid and steady all night and easily walked away with their third win of the season, 69 to 49. MEN OF THE MATCH: S.Kaulback, Blue & A.Slauenwhite, Green GAME 02: BLACK (3-1) vs. PURPLE (2-2)
Final Score: 78 to 56 for BLACK Purple continued to ride their roller coaster season while Black looks like a legitimate contender for the title. Black revolved around their scoring master, Kyle Zinck (37pts) and Purple just never seemed to find their footing in this highly anticipated contest. In the end Black coasted to the easy 78 to 56 victory and a spot at the top of the table. MEN OF THE MATCH: K.Zinck, Black & C.Leary, Purple GAME 03: GOLD (2-2) vs. ORANGE (3-1) Final Score: 70 to 62 for ORANGE Gold started off hot and coming off their first lost were looking to bounce back. Orange was looking to maintain pace with Black, who won earlier in the night. Orange's two line attack was too much for Gold who kept close but could never quite close the early gap that Orange built. In the end Orange shares the top of the table after the 70 to 62 victory. MEN OF THE MATCH: D.Canning, Gold & M.Carver, Orange |
WEEK FIVE: AT THE HALFWAY POINT ...
GAME 01: BLACK (3-2) vs. ORANGE (4-1)
Final Score: 68/65 to 63 for ORANGE This was a battle for first place between two high octane teams and a great opener for the night. Both teams fought tooth and nail all night with neither team finding any separation or breathing room. Teams exchanged points, and elbows, all night and while Orange contained the league leading scorer they couldn't contain Matt Trethewey (24pts) who had a breakout performance. In the end the second line punch of Michael O'Hearon (22pts) and Mike Zinck (14pts) secured the 68 to 63 victory for Orange. MEN OF THE MATCH: M.Trethewey, Black & M.O'Hearon, Orange GAME 02: GREEN (0-5) vs. PURPLE (3-2)
Final Score: 70/67 to 51/50 for PURPLE You never know what you were getting with Purple and tonight was their monster size as they made sure that they were not the first team to fall to Green on the season. Caleb Leary (19pts) paced the purple attack, offsetting another strong night from Alex Slauenwhite (19pts). Unfortunately he was the only one to find the net for Green and Purple used each shift to expand their lead. In the end Green remained winless and Purple kept in the title hunt with their third win of the season, 70 to 51. MEN OF THE MATCH: A.Slauenwhite, Green & C.Leary, Purple GAME 03: BLUE (2-3) vs. GOLD (3-2) Final Score: 75/73 to 72/58 for GOLD The nights finale was the most exciting game of the night. Blue had super sub Channing Carver (28pts) backing their assault while the league's most consistent player Damon Wamboldt (28pts) and super rookie Wendell Weir (26pts) balanced the attack for Gold. Shane Kaulback drained big shots down the stretch to keep Blue close but Gold maintained its composure to secure their biggest and most important win of the season with their toughest win of the season, 75 to 72 over Blue. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Carver, Blue & W.Weir, Gold |
WEEK SIX: LET THE BATTLE(S) BEGIN
GAME 01: GOLD (4-2) vs. GREEN (0-6)
Final Score: 88/87 to 61 for GOLD Gold returned, after slipping in the standing, to its grind and grit play and used their defensive prowess to lock down the Green offence, which was still looking for its way. Wendell Weir (29pts) was a dominate force in the game all night, and led the Gold attack on the glass and on the scoreboard. In the end Green is still looking for its first win while Gold captured the 88 to 61 victory. MEN OF THE MATCH: W.Weir, Gold & D.Dexter, Green GAME 02: ORANGE (5-1) vs. PURPLE (3-3)
Final Score: 77/69 to 55 for ORANGE Orange looked to avenge their only loss of the season as they battled a Purple team that was struggling with their identity. Mike Zinck (34pts) led the attack and was the difference maker in the game with eight bombs from beyond the arc.
