WEEK ONE: BACK IN THE SADDLE
GAME 01: BLACK (0-1) vs. BLUE (1-0)
Final Score: 52/50 to 50/47 for BLUE The opening game of the 2015 season was a sloppy affair with teams getting to know each other. Blue managed to explode out of the gate, building a lead that they would never relinquish. Black tried to claw their way back into the game behind strong games from Michael O'Hearon (17) and Mike Zinck (10) but it wasn't enough as Kyle Lowe (19) and Owen Mansfield (14) led Blue to their first win of the new season and left Black with some room for improvement. MEN OF THE MATCH: R.Hasegawa, Black & O.Mansfield, Blue GAME 02: GOLD (1-0) vs. PINK (0-1)
Final Score: 65 to 55 for GOLD This game was the story of two halves with the first half being all Pink as they flexed their muscle and built a strong lead. Gold used halftime to regroup and behind solid performance from Mackenzie Carver (18) and Steven Zwicker (16) they were able to close the gap built up by Pink and take the lead. Despite strong showings from Matt Trethewey (14) and Wendell Weir (13), Pink wasn't able to slow down Gold who picked up their first win of the season. MEN OF THE MATCH: S.Zwicker, Gold & M.Trethewey, Pink GAME 03: PURPLE (1-0) vs. WHITE (0-1) Final Score: 68/67 to 40 for PURPLE While most teams take a few minutes to come together, Purple seemed to get it right away. White was shocked by their defensive ferocity and offensive fluidity. Josh Chaytor (22) and Wayne Pardy (10) dominated the Purple attack while Andrew Johnson (20) was the only White team member to reach double figures on the night. Purple dominated the glass and the game, looking like an early favourite on the young season. MEN OF THE MATCH: J.Chaytor, Purple & A.Johnson, White |
WEEK TWO: CHEMISTRY CLASS
GAME 01: PINK (0-2) vs. PURPLE (2-0)
Final Score: 75/65 to 50 for PURPLE Purple was missing two of their energisers and looked poised for defeat at the outset of the game. Instead they played stifling defence and played a brand of offence that didn't allow Pink to get their footing. Purple hit from all corners and led by their dominant inside game, highlighted by Josh Chaytor (16) and Evan Monahan (14). Despite strong play from Wendell Weir (25) Pink wasn't able to contain Purple who cruised to the easy victory. MEN OF THE MATCH: W.Weir, Pink & E.Monahan, Purple GAME 02: BLACK (0-2) vs. GOLD (2-0)
Final Score: 56/54 to 50/41 for GOLD Gold looked like a team with purpose as they looked to start the season hot while Black was looking for their first win. Led by a strong one-two punch of MacKenzie Carver (21) and Steven Zwicker (16), Gold easily out played the Black tandem of Caleb Leary (18) and Michael O'Hearon (16). The score closed tight down the stretch but in the end Gold was too strong and held on for the victory. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Leary, Black & M.Carver, Gold GAME 03: BLUE (1-1) vs. WHITE (1-1) Final Score: 66/65 to 50/49 for WHITE Both teams came out fighting for the win as Blue tried to keep their hot start going while White was looking to bounce back and get their first win of the season. White found their balance early behind a solid inside-outside game with Andrew Johnson (25) and Connor Munro (12) dominating the play. Kyle Lowe (14) tried to counter for the Blue team but it wasn't enough as they weren't able to deal with the consistent play of White. MEN OF THE MATCH: J.Oickle, Blue & C.Munro, White |
WEEK THREE: MARCH MADNESS
GAME 01: GOLD (3-0) vs. WHITE (1-2)
Final Score: 79 to 50/38 for GOLD White was missing most of their team and Gold decided to flex their muscles in this battle. Gold used size and chemistry to dominate the smaller, substitute filled white team. Opening up an early lead allowed them to coast to the end behind strong play from Mackenzie Carver (18) and Sebastian Emino-Savory (12). White was bolstered by strong games from Daniel Looke (12) and Mike Zinck (14) but it wasn't enough to contain and keep up with the Gold assault. MEN OF THE MATCH: S.Emino-Savory, Gold & D.Looke, White GAME 02: BLUE (1-2) vs. PURPLE (3-0)
Final Score: 63 to 45/43 for PURPLE With Gold winning, Purple looked to keep up in the standings and for the first part of the game it was a battle as both teams played strong defence. The second half saw Cody DeLong (14) gather the troops and rally the Purple People Eaters into action. This game wouldn't see a finish as Mustapha Maynard would fall to injury and the game was called with eight minutes left. Our thoughts are with Moose and his family as he recovers. MEN OF THE MATCH: B.Zinck, Blue & C.DeLong, Purple GAME 03: BLACK (0-3) vs. PINK (1-2) Final Score: 57 to 48/42 for PINK This was a game where both teams were playing cautious but still looking for their first wins of the season. Pink forced turnovers repeatedly and built a steady lead behind strong games from Nick Chaytor (16) and Allan Carver (10). Caleb Leary (13) and Michael O'Hearon (15) tried to keep this game close but it wasn't meant to be for Black who continued to lose while Pink garnered their first victory of the season. MEN OF THE MATCH: B.Silver, Black & N.Chaytor, Pink |
WEEK FOUR: BEFORE THE CALM
GAME 01: BLACK (0-4) vs. PURPLE (4-0)
Final Score: 64/61 to 55 for PURPLE Black was still searching for its first win of the season and unfortunately for them they ran into the buzz-saw that is the Purple team. Purple enforced their will on the game early in, forcing Black to play from behind. They consistently took advantage of the weak Black defence and despite a late push controlled the game from beginning to end. Cody DeLong (15) and Josh Chaytor (14) paced the Purple attack while Black countered with strong games from Alex Slauenwhite (15) and James Quick (15). Black will continue to search while Purple remained perfect on the season. MEN OF THE MATCH: J.Quick, Black & C.DeLong, Purple GAME 02: PINK (1-3) vs. WHITE (2-2)
Final Score: 62 to 49/45 for WHITE Pink was riding high after their first win of the season but came across a White team featuring their full force for the first time all season. White used their size to dominate the game with Pink fighting hard behind the leadership of Matt Trethewey (14). The one-two punch of Connor Munro (11) and Andrew Johnson (19) was too much for them. White looked like a force as they easily grabbed their second victory of the season while Pink will look to right the ship and bounce back in the next game. MEN OF THE MATCH: M.Trethewey, Pink & A.Frail, White GAME 03: BLUE (1-3) vs. GOLD (4-0) Final Score: 62/61 to 45/42 for GOLD With Purple winning Gold was looking to keep up with the Purple team. Blue was reeling from the loss of Moose but with Caleb Leary (14) stepping in there was hope they would go tow-toe with the mighty Gold team. With Gold being paced by mighty Mackenzie Carver (18) and swift Sebastian Emino-Savory (11), they rushed out to an early lead that they would never relinquish or look back from. Gold remained perfect on the season while once again Blue slipped down in the ranks. MEN OF THE MATCH: D.Dexter, Blue & K.Ryan, Gold |
WEEK FIVE: FOR THE FIRST TIME ...
GAME 01: BLUE (2-3) vs. PINK (1-4)
Final Score: 64 to 62/60 for BLUE Both teams were looking to make a move in the standings and neither team wanted to give an inch in this must win game. Both teams battled through regulation but that wasn't enough to separate the two teams as they required overtime to finish things up, only that didn't either so for the first time in league history the free-throw shoot-out came into play. Blue would go 2 for 4 while Pink missed their four shots. Blue was led by Caleb Leary (18) and Kyle Lowe (14) while Wendell Weir (15) and Nick Chaytor (13) countered for Pink. Blue grabbed the all important victory and Pink slid further in the standings. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Leary, Blue & W.Weir, Pink GAME 02: BLACK (0-5) vs. WHITE (3-2)
Final Score: 69 to 50/44 for WHITE White continued to turn its season over as they played strong against a Black team that was still looking for its first win of the season. They temporarily held the lead but it was short lived as White stormed back and took over the game. Michael O'Hearon (28) and Mike Zinck (12) put up solid numbers for the Black team but with Andrew Johnson (18) and Ryleigh Theriau (13) leading the balanced White attack there was nothing Black could do to keep pace. White continued their ascent in the standings while Black continued to look, to search for its first win of the season.
