WEEK ONE: THE RUSTY SNEAKERS
GAME 01: BLUE (1-0) vs. TAN (0-1)
Final Score: 81/73 to 48 for BLUE This was a good opening game. Both teams came out hard, figuring out the names of their guys and trying to string together points. For a while it was back and forth but then the basket Blue was shooting on became large and three's started falling steadily. Tan on the other hand struggled to keep up and the ball just wouldn't fall for them. Channing Carver (25) and Bailey Silver (13) led the Blue team to victory while Tyler Smith (14) and Wendell Weir (12) countered for the Tan team in defeat. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Carver, Blue & T.Smith, Tan GAME 02: MAROON (1-0) vs. ORANGE (0-1)
Final Score: 68/57 to 55 for MAROON This game was an excellent follow-up to the first game and the first game where a sub featured heavily in the result. Orange looked a little disjointed on offence while Maroon made their presence known on defense, securing the ball and playing sound offence. Both team struggled to shoot the ball and in the end Austin Brown (22) was the difference in the match. Austin Smith (13) and Michael O'Hearon (10) led the Orange team but with almost all their team scoring Maroon secured the opening week win. MEN OF THE MATCH: A.Brown, Maroon & A.Smith, Orange GAME 03: GREEN (1-0) vs. PINK (0-1) Final Score: 66/55 to 46 for GREEN Another fun game with two teams trying to figure things out in the opening week. Again the game came down to who could get the ball to fall through the net the most and in this case it was Green who managed to get the right bounces and walk away with the victory. Austin Brown (14), and yes, subbing again, and Kyle Logan (11) paced the balanced Green attack while Jonathan Oickle (13) countered for the Pink team. Both teams played hard and should be forces once the chemistry cements. MEN OF THE MATCH: K.Logan, Green & C.DeLong, Pink |
WEEK TWO: TAKING THE AIR OUT OF THE BALL
GAME 01: ORANGE (0-2) vs. PINK (1-1)
Final Score: 68 to 64 for PINK A good opener that saw two winless teams looking to make their mark on the season. Both teams shuffled their lineups trying to maximize their effectiveness on the court and it seemed to work as the score bounced back and forth throughout the duration of the game. Pink was spearheaded by the one-two punch of Shane Hirtle (17) and Cody DeLong (15) while Orange countered with Michael O'Hearon (25) and Cameron Cunningham (15). Pink landed the final blows and escaped with the four point victory. MEN OF THE MATCH: M.O'Hearon, Orange & S.Hirtle, Pink GAME 02: BLUE (2-0) vs. MAROON (1-1)
Final Score: 64 to 60 for BLUE Blue looked to build on their momentum from Week 1 while Maroon cemented their status as the Grinders of the league. Every time that Blue made a run Maroon made their way back into the game with hard hitting defence and clutch shooting. With Blue led by Channing Carver (19) and Aaron Frail (10) leading the balanced Blue attack they countered the Maroon attack by Catlin Garber (13) and Spencer Fancy (12) . Blue managed to remain undefeated while Maroon felt the sting of defeat. MEN OF THE MATCH: A.Frail, Blue & S.Fancy, Maroon GAME 03: GREEN (1-1) vs. TAN (1-1) Final Score: 69 to 59 for TAN Green saw their full team on the court for the first time together and their was some learning curves for them as they tried and figured things out. Tan on the other hand used their length and figured their lines out meaning that they were able to get continuity from the start of the game, something Green was missing. Green was led by Caleb Barry (17) and Colin Silver (16) while Tan countered with Tyler Smith (18) and Ryleigh Theriau (14). Both teams looked strong but Tan managed to pick up their first win. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Silver, Green & R.Theriau, Tan |
WEEK THREE: A NUMBERS GAME
GAME 01: ORANGE (0-3) vs. TAN (2-1)
Final Score: 88/87 to 78 for TAN This game was a game of numbers where less was more. Tan missing multiple players had a spot in their lineup where they could double players and balance strength on both lines. This ability to balance their veterans made the Orange battle plan harder as they had to contend at multiple times with Tan's big three. Tan was led by Wendell Weir (25), Ryleigh Theriau (21) and Tyler Smith (20) while Orange tried and countered with Michael O'Hearon (23), Austin Smith (17) and Owen Mansfield (12). In the end Orange was there but they didn't get the bounces and will look to win next week. MEN OF THE MATCH: O.Mansfield, Orange & W.Weir, Tan GAME 02: BLUE (3-0) vs. GREEN (1-2)
Final Score: 81/75 to 80 for BLUE This game started off looking like it was going to be a abysmal blowout with the Blue sharpshooters hitting everything and the Green team looking lost on the court. At one point at the beginning of the second half the point difference was 33pts but Green never quit. Kyle Lowe (21), Caleb Barry (14) and Ziauddin Hamidi (12) led the Green comeback charge but came up short as the potent game from Luke Young (23), Aaron Frail (14) and Nick Chaytor (14) allowed Blue to hold on to victory. Green did manage to steal a point once the points of sub Daniel Uhlman (13) were halved. MEN OF THE MATCH: L.Young, Blue & C.Barry, Green GAME 03: MAROON (1-2) vs. PINK (2-1) Final Score: 82 to 66 for PINK This game wasn't so much a numbers game as it was a gameof choices. Maroon was a one shot wonder team, often throwing up shots as soon as they came down the court while Pink showed their ability to move the ball and get the best possible shot. Pink controlled this game with their high energy game and were led by Wayne Pardy (23) and Shane Hirtle (16). Maroon countered with strong games from Catlin Garber (17) and Kyle Veinot (14). Unfortunately for Maroon Pink proved to be too much for them and escaped with the victory. MEN OF THE MATCH: K.Veinot, Maroon & W.Pardy, Pink |
WEEK FOUR: BACK ON THE HARDWOOD
GAME 01: GREEN (1-3) vs. MAROON (2-2)
Final Score: 75/71 to 62 for MAROON The first game of the night was a great shooting game - the only one of the night. Both teams came out shooting the rock with precision with Green jumping out to the early lead but Maroon storming back with a vengeance. After Green broke out to an early lead Maroon caught fire behind a strong shooting game from Catlin Garber (27) and a total team effort. Green countered with strong games from Colin Silver (18) and Z.Hamidi (14) but in the end the effective Maroon offence stifled their chances at victory and Green was unable to capture the win. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Silver, Green & C.Garber, Maroon GAME 02: PINK (2-2) vs. TAN (3-1)
Final Score: 51 to 46/42 for TAN All the good shooting from the first game seemed to wear out the rim as this game saw both teams struggling to get the ball into the rim. Pink stifled the Tan attack, limiting them to one and done's but then couldn't find the bottom of the net themselves. Tan was persistent on defence themselves and in the end they slowly managed to build up the slightest of leads. Despite a strong game from Wayne Pardy (17) Pink was unable to come back as Wendell Weir (14) and Tyler Smith (10) cemented the Tan victory and allowed Tan to slide into second place. MEN OF THE MATCH: W.Pardy, Pink & W.Weir, Tan GAME 03: BLUE (3-1) vs. ORANGE (1-3) Final Score: 74/70 to 73 for Orange The best versus the worst was the final game and this was a slugfest to say the least as the referees allowed them to go at it in the trenches. This game would come down to the final seconds of the game when after a last second foul Bailey Silver (6) had a chance to win it with three final free throws. In the end Orange would escape the game with a total team effort led by Cameron Cunningham (12) while Blue suffered their first defeat despite a great game from Channing Carver (26). In the end Blue would steal a point after the sub points were totalled but Orange stole their first victory. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Carver, Blue & M.Robar, Orange |
WEEK FIVE: WHERE DID EVERYBODY GO?
GAME 01: BLUE (3-2) vs. PINK (3-2)
Final Score: 65 to 55 for PINK Blue was missing its finisher and Pink its bomber as two of the top teams jostled for position in the standings. Both teams slugged it out as they looked to finishing atop the standing after the first five games of the season. Both teams played excellent team ball and with just minutes left in the game it came down to execution which Pink did just a bit better than Blue down the stretch. Blue was paced by Brandon Cunningham (11) and Aaron Frail (10) while Pink saw strong games from Jacob Reeves (10) and Cullen Carver (10). In the end Pink escaped with the victory but Blue managed to hold on to top stop for yet another week. MEN OF THE MATCH: B.Cunningham, Blue & J.Reeves, Pink GAME 02: GREEN (1-4) vs. ORANGE (2-3)
Final Score: 65 to 61/57 for ORANGE This was a battle of the bottom teams and Green was missing half their team as they looked to hold off a hot Orange team. Orange played balanced ball with both lines digging hard on offence while Green struggled out of the gate but were kept close by the hot shooting of Z.Hamidi (32). With Orange up by three going into the last shift they managed to dig deep and keep Green from completing the comeback with clutch shooting from TK Smooth (5) and great games from Josh Chaytor (12) and Cameron Cunningham (20). Orange would manage to string together tow wins in a row while Green was left to wonder what could have been. MEN OF THE MATCH: Z.Hamidi, Green & T.Kendall, Orange GAME 03: MAROON (3-2) vs. TAN (3-2) Final Score: 91 to 63/59 for MAROON This game was played by a team and the shell of the Tan team who were missing 50% of their team. Maroon played what could be considered the highlight game of the season as they moved the ball inside and out with ease, controlling the glass and the three point line. Every player was involved in the game and they said afterwards that it felt like they had an assist on every bucket. Tan say strong shooting games from Colin McKay (23) and Tyler Smith (19) go to waste while Maroon saw powerful games from both Catlin Garber (29) and Ryan O'Toole (29) who dominated the Tan team on offence. Tan will be looking for revenge next they meet. MEN OF THE MATCH: R.O'Toole, Maroon & C.McKay, Tan |
WEEK SIX: MIDWAY POINT
GAME 01: PINK (3-3) vs. GREEN (2-4)
Final Score: 75/69 to 55/46 for GREEN Pink fell into the trap of missing players and found themselves shorthanded entering this week. Without their engine they weren't able to compete with the balanced Green attack. With Z.Hamidi (17) and Colin Silver (17) leading the charge Green was able to easily cruise past the Pink attack that was led by big man Jonathan Oickle (17). Green starts the second time through the schedule with a big win and climbs to fifth in the standings. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Silver, Green & J.OIckle, Pink GAME 02: TAN (3-3) vs. BLUE (4-2)
Final Score: 73/69 to 62 for BLUE This was a battle of two top teams with Tan looking to exact some revenge from their last game. Unfortunately the numbers game caught up with them as they were missing players and weren't able to keep up with the Blue assault. Nick Chaytor (19) and Bailey Silver (13) led the Blue team while Wendell Weir (28) was a one man wrecking crew for the Tan team. Blue managed to hold on to top spot for another week while Tan looks to rebound next week. MEN OF THE MATCH: N.Chaytor, Blue & W.Weir, Tan GAME 03: ORANGE (2-4) vs. MAROON (4-2) Final Score: 59 to 51 for MAROON This was the toughest fought game of the season with Orange looking to press on with their winning streak while Maroon continues to climb the standings. Ryan O'Toole (19) and Anthony Slauenwhite (10) controlled the glass and kept the game just out of reach from the Orange team while Austin Smith (12) and Cameron Cunningham (11) played gutsy games for the Orange team who fell to last in the standings while Maroon climbed to second. MEN OF THE MATCH: A.Slauenwhite, Maroon & K.Carver, Orange |
WEEK SEVEN: JOCKEYING FOR POSITION
GAME 01: MAROON (5-2) vs. BLUE (4-3)
Final Score: 71 to 50/43 for MAROON Maroon continues to look impressive as they shed their grinder persona and instead look like a high powered offensive machine ready to take the league by storm in the second half of the season. In the battle of the top two teams they stormed out early, taking advantage of Blue being unable to find the basket, and were able to cruise to the finish line for the easy victory. Blue was paced by Channing Carver (20) and Daniel Uhlman (8) while Maroon countered with their big two of Ryan O'Toole (17) and Catlin Garber (15) as Maroon took possesion of top spot in the league. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Carver, Blue & T.Dylan, Maroon GAME 02: PINK (3-4) vs. ORANGE (3-4)
Final Score: 76/72 to 46/37 for ORANGE The engine that was the Pink machine seems to be slipping over the past few weeks as attendance issues have reared their head, leaving Pink's title hopes in question. Once again missing almost half their team they struggles out of the gate while Orange seemed to find the recipe for success and controlled the game from beginning to end. Pink was led by Mackenzie Carver (12) and Noah Wassink (8) while Orange saw strong games from Austin Smith (23) and OJ Hennigar (11). Orange will need to continue to win though if they look to crawl out from last place. MEN OF THE MATCH: O.Hennigar, Orange & N.Wassink, Pink GAME 03: TAN (3-4) vs. GREEN (3-4) Final Score: 87/86 to 56/53 for GREEN At the beginning of the season Tan looked like a title contender while Green looked out of sorts on the court but it is amazing what a few weeks can do for teams. Tan has struggled to find the three ball they live by while Green has established a tough defensive presence and solid inside out game. This week was no different as Tan saw Wendell Weir (26) and Ryleigh Theriau (12) put up strong games but were unable to stop the Green attack which was led by Colin Silver (25), Kyle Lowe (17) and Z.Hamidi (17). Green is on the rise while Tan looks to right the ship next week. MEN OF THE MATCH: B.Milbury, Green & W.Weir, Tan |
WEEK EIGHT: THE TEMPERATURE RISES
GAME 01: ORANGE (3-5) vs. TAN (4-4)
Final Score: 72 to 69/67 for TAN This was the starter game and the only close game of the week as Orange tried to climb from the basement while Tan looked to right the ship that had steered of course the previous two weeks. Tan saw their big three of Tyler Smith (20), Ryleigh Theriau (15) and Wendell Weir (13) hit double figures while Orange countered with strong games from Josh Chaytor (17) and Michael O'Hearon (19). Orange had a shot to tie the game in the dying seconds but came up short on the shot and so remain on the bottom while Tan is positioned for a late season run. MEN OF THE MATCH: J.Chaytor, Orange & R.Theraiu, Tan GAME 02: MAROON (6-2) vs. PINK (3-5)
Final Score: 96/92 to 74/55 for MAROON Maroon continues their dream season as they push towards the top seed in the playoff picture while Pink who looked like contenders early in the season are seeing their contention hopes disappear with each passing week. Maroon rolled behind another strong performance from their big two Catlin Garber (29) and Ryan O'Toole (18) while Pink countered with Mackenzie Carver (29) and Bailey Zinck (13). With everyone hitting the scoreboard Maroon rolled to the dominant victory and continues to hold on to top spot in the league. MEN OF THE MATCH: S.Fancy, Maroon & M.Carver, Pink GAME 03: BLUE (5-3) vs. GREEN (3-5) Final Score: 75/73 to 51/50 for BLUE This game started off as a dog fight between two teams jockeying for position and was close for a large portion of the first half but then the unfortunate injury bug bit Green as their top scorer Z.Hamidi (6) tore his finger and was forced from the game. With Z on the bench Blue took advantage of the opportunity and behind strong games from Channing Carver (18) and Bailey Silver (18) they cruised past Green who saw Colin Silver (18) as the only player to hit double figures. Blue keeps pace with Maroon while Green missing an opportunity to climb. MEN OF THE MATCH: B.Silver, Blue & C.Silver, Green |
WEEK NINE: HITTING THE GROUND RUNNING
GAME 01: BLUE (6-3) vs. ORANGE (3-6)
Final Score: 75 to 73 for BLUE This game set the tone for the week as all the games were tooth and nail fights to the very end. This game saw Blue open up a lead over the younger Orange team who, like every week, were battling to keep things close. Blue was led by strong games from Channing Carver (18) and Alex Slauenwhite (12) while Orange countered with formidable games from Josh Chaytor (19) and Michael O'Hearon (21). Orange had a chance to tie the game with seconds left but Michael O'Hearon blew the layup and once again Orange came up on the short end of a close game. MEN OF THE MATCH: A.Slauenwhite, Blue & J.Chaytor, Orange GAME 02: GREEN (4-5) vs. MAROON (6-3)
Final Score: 72 to 68/63 for GREEN Maroon had been rolling over teams the past few weeks with a total team attack but tonight they were missing half of that team, which left them vulnerable to a hungry Green team. With much of the interior defence missing Green attacked both inside and out, led by Colin Silver (18) and Kyle Lowe (18) who picked apart the Maroon defence. Maroon countered with another great game from Catlin Garber (30) and a strong sub performance from James Cheeseman (11). Green kept the pressure on the top teams while Maroon couldn't clinch the first playoff spot of the season. MEN OF THE MATCH: K.Lowe, Green & J.Cheeseman, Maroon GAME 03: PINK (3-6) vs. TAN (5-4) Final Score: 81 to 76 for TAN Tan who have been up and down all season seem to have rallied the troops and are ready to push for a top four finish. This game saw Pink rebound after some sketchy performances and play team ball from beginning to end. Tan saw Tyler Smith (28) and Ryleigh Theriau (17) take control of the game while Cody DeLong (22) and Bobby Lowe (10) had excellent games for the Pink team. With tempers flaring at times both teams battled hard with Tan's timely shooting managing to help them squeak out the victory over a Pink team that could cause headaches down the stretch with a late playoff run. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.DeLong, Pink & T.Smith, Tan |
WEEK TEN: PICTURE BEGINS TO FOCUS
GAME 01: MAROON (7-3) vs. TAN (5-5)
Final Score: 82 to 72 for MAROON Tan was looking to push forward for a first place tie while Maroon was looking to clinch a playoff spot in the heated battle at the top of the league. Back and forth this game went with tempers and talk flaring at times as the two teams looked to separate themselves but with little avail. Tan fell cold in the second half while Maroon found their steady play was able to help them capture victory. Tan was led by strong games from Wendell Weir (22) and Cory Duchesne (18) but with league scoring leader Catlin Garber (20) and his floor general Tyler Dylan (13) leading the charge Maroon clinched a playoff spot and held Tan's playoff hopes at bay for another week. MEN OF THE MATCH: T.Dylan, Maroon & C.Duchesne, Tan GAME 02: GREEN (4-6) vs. ORANGE (4-6)
Final Score: 74/56 to 54 for ORANGE For the first time all season Orange was missing a lot of players, more than half their team, and so this game looked to be lopsided from the beginning with four regulars and four subs suiting up for Orange. Fortunately for them Green was out of synch from the beginning and the new Orange team figured out their system of success quickly. Green had strong performances from Colin Silver (23) and Caleb Barry (13) but with a strong performance from James Cheeseman (16) and steady game from old man Michael O'Hearon (15) the Orange playoff hopes stayed alive while Green will have to wait another week to see where they will end up in the standings. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Silver, Green & J.Cheeseman, Orange GAME 03: BLUE (7-3) vs. PINK (3-7) Final Score: 77/69 to 52 for BLUE Expectations were high for the Pink team after their strong performance last week and with Blue missing players they looked primed to take a step up in the standings. Thing was Blue missed the memo and with two Chaytors on the same team for the first time they continued their run for top spot in the standings. Newly minted Pink player Bobby Lowe (16) tried to rally the troops and got support from Jonathan Oickle (12) but it wasn't enough to slow down Nick Chaytor (15), Josh Chaytor (16) and Luke Young (17) who had strong games for the Blue team on the offensive end. Blue kept pace with Maroon and Pink now needs to win out to keep their playoff hopes alive. MEN OF THE MATCH: L.Young, Blue & B.Lowe, Pink |
WEEK ELEVEN: PLAYOFFS COMING INTO VIEW
GAME 01: GREEN (4-7) vs. MAROON (8-3)
Final Score: 72 to 45/43 for MAROON Even when they struggle Maroon doesn't seem to miss a beat as they had one of their worst shooting games of the season but still managed to easily come away with a victory and clinch first place in the regular season. Maroon dominated the boards led by Evan Monahan (9) and Sam Jess (6) while Tyler Dylan (15) dazzled on offence. Green was led by a strong game from Colin Silver (22) and are hopefully saving their best for last as they look to secure a playoff spot and a possible rematch with Maroon who has had their number this season. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Silver, Green & E.Monahan, Maroon GAME 02: PINK (3-8) vs. TAN (6-5)
Final Score: 67 to 57 for TAN Tan was looking to clinch their ticket to the playoff while Pink was looking to stay alive. With most of their team missing Tan leaned heavily on their big guns with Wendell Weir (29), Ryleigh Theriau (18) and Cory Duchesne (12) all hitting double figures as Tan secured their spot in the playoffs. Pink countered with strong games from Bobby Lowe (12) and Cullen Carver (11) but it wasn't enough to garner them victory as they slipped from the playoff scene and instead will look to play spoiler in the final week versus the Maroon juggernaut. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Carver, Pink & W.Weir, Tan GAME 03: BLUE (7-4) vs. ORANGE (5-6) Final Score: 57 to 54/53 for ORANGE Orange was looking to take hold of its own fate while Blue was looking to keep pace with the Maroon team in the hunt for first place. Like their previous two battles this one was a back and forth affair with both teams holding the league at various points throughout the game. Channing Carver (18) and Alex Slauenwhite (11) bolstered to Blue attack while Orange's bigs of Michael O'Hearon (19), Josh Chaytor (12) and OJ Hennigar (12) all were in top form as Orange continued its climb and for the moment holds on to the final championship playoff spot. MEN OF THE MATCH: A.Slauenwhite, Blue & O.Hennigar, Orange |
WEEK TWELVE: SET IN STONE
GAME 01: BLUE (7-5) vs. TAN (7-5)
Final Score: 67 to 48 for TAN This game was a sneak preview to next week but unfortunately didn't reveal much as both teams were shorthanded, with Blue missing three of their big guns. Tan had its big players all there who helped dominate both ends of the court and were supported by a string game from Lucas Lavender (10) who ran the court well and finished all night. Blue was led by Luke Smith (16) who played solid all night and will look to bounce back next week in the semi-final game versus this same Tan team. MEN OF THE MATCH: L.Smith, Blue & L.Lavender, Tan GAME 02: GREEN (5-7) vs. ORANGE (5-7)
Final Score: 84/80 to 71 for GREEN This was the game that meant something as both teams were vying for that fourth place finish. This game was tight in the first half with Green holding the slimmest of leads. Orange continued to battle all night but scoring depth was lacking and Green was able to slowly expand their lead throughout the second half. Austin Smith (20) led the Orange attack and was countered by Z.Hamidi (23) for Green. Green with the win snuck past Orange and will now battle Maroon in the other semi next week. MEN OF THE MATCH: Z.Hamidi, Green & A.Smith, Orange GAME 03: MAROON (8-4) vs. PINK (4-8) Final Score: 56/55 to 54 for PINK Maroon was playing to keep in stride while Pink was playing to finish strong. With players missing from the Maroon machine and the shots not following it allowed the strong Pink defence to keep the game close. With time running down Pink and the game tied Bobby Lowe (12) hit two clutch free throws to seal the victory for Pink who upset a struggling Maroon team that looked out of sorts all evening. Maroon led by Spencer Fancy (12) will now battle Green in semi action next week. MEN OF THE MATCH: S.Fancy, Maroon & B.Lowe, Pink |
WEEK THIRTEEN: PLAYOFFS - SEMIFINALS
GAME 01: ORANGE (6-7) vs. PINK (4-9)
Final Score: 64 to 47/44 for ORANGE This game was played with great intensity despite meaning nothing in the standings but both teams were playing for pride. Orange jumped out to a stellar opening lead 19-7 and didn't look back for the rest of the game as their defence locked down and despite a few strong pushes from Pink managed to win their 6th game of the season. Orange was led by Michael O'Hearon (13), Josh Chaytor (12) and Keegan Carver (12) while Pink countered with strong games from Bailey Zinck (11) and Cody DeLong (8). Pink will battle Green next week while Orange will battle Tan. MEN OF THE MATCH: K.Carver, Orange & B.Zinck, Pink GAME 02: BLUE (8-5) vs. TAN (7-6)
Final Score: 74 to 69 for BLUE This game featured two of the most explosive teams in the league. The game saw both teams run the ball often and stopping to slow down seemed to only happen with foul shots. Tan relied heavily on their big three while Blue demonstrated a strong team approach that saw multiple players hit or approach double figure scoring. Tan saw Ryleigh Theriau (25), Tyler Smith (19) and Wendell Weir (19) light up the scoreboard but were countered by Alex Slauenwhite (19), Channing Carver (17) and Aaron Frail (12) who led Blue to the finals appearance with Maroon. MEN OF THE MATCH: A.Slauenwhite, Blue & R.Theriau, Tan GAME 03: GREEN (5-8) vs. MAROON (9-4) Final Score: 76 to 66 for MAROON With Maroon missing men and Green featuring their full complement of players it looked like it was going to be a battle between two top teams and for the first half it was. Unfortunately half time occurred and Green came out cold. Maroon used their meticulous offence to build up a lead that they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. Green was led by rookie Colin Silver (20) and Caleb Barry (17) while Maroon countered with their big two Catlin Garber (30) and Ryan O'Toole (21) meaning that Green will play Pink next week and Maroon will battle Blue in the Championship game. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Barry, Green & C.Garber, Maroon |
WEEK FOURTEEN: CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK
GAME 01: ORANGE (7-7) vs. TAN (7-7)
Final Score: 74 to 73/70 for ORANGE This was the third time that these two teams locked horns this season. Both times before Tan walked away with victories so Orange was hungry to finish the season strong and avenge those previous losses. Tan was missing one player and picked up a past all-star to replace him which meant that multiple times Orange faced line-ups featuring multiple past all-stars. Orange though did what it did all season and played gritty defence in hopes of keeping the game close - and then did something they hadn't done all season scored points to back up their defensive effort. With Wendell Weir (30) and Ryleigh Theriau (14) attacking hard all night Orange countered with Austin Smith (18) and Michael O'Hearon (15) who anchored their lines to victory - leaving both teams with .500 records to end the season. MEN OF THE MATCH: A.Smith, Orange & W.Weir, Tan GAME 02: GREEN (6-8) vs. PINK (4-10)
Final Score: 63/62 to 60 for GREEN This game saw Green and Pink locking horns for the third time this season. Green was looking for the season sweep of the series and saw their energy falter at times as they looked to take down a Pink team trying to avoid their tenth loss of the season. Green saw Caleb Barry (23) and Kyle Lowe (15) explode for solid games and while Jonathan Oickle (14) and Cody DeLong (12) countered with strong performances they weren't able to hold back the balanced Green attack. Both teams fell victim to missing players throughout the season with those losses costing them a chance at the playoffs but certainly fought hard in the final game - giving the full gymnasium a hard fought game that was enjoyable from beginning to end. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Barry, Green & J.Oickle, Pink GAME 03: BLUE (9-5) vs. MAROON (9-5) Final Score: 90 to 79 for BLUE These were the top two teams all season and so it was fitting that they were matched up in the final game of the season. Both teams were missing their inside presence, which meant that the game was easily going to become a run and gun affair - a style of play that favoured the guard heavy Blue team. Blue would stifle on defence and frustrate Maroon for much of the evening while the guards attacked the lanes with reckless abandon. In the battle of the league's top scores in would Channing Carver (37) who would beat out Catlin Garber (29) as they fought for championship glory. Maroon would fight back in the final minutes of the game to close as close as five points but in the end the Blue attack supported by Luke Young (13) and Aaron Frail (13) would guide the Blue team to championship glory. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Carver, Blue & C.Garber, Maroon |
