WEEK ONE: BACK TO BASICS
GAME 01: BLUE (0-1) vs. GOLD (1-0)
Final Score: 72 to 56 for GOLD The opening game of the 11th season was a good run and very indicative of every season - both teams figuring things out and one team finally figuring out how to get the ball to fall. Blue hung with Gold through the first half as both teams struggled to make the ball go into the net. The second half saw Gold figure things out as Caleb Reid (17pts) and Damon Wamboldt (18pts) began dominating the glass and getting the ball to fall. Grant Cook (14pts) tried to keep his team in the running but they just couldn't get the ball to fall as Gold opened the spread and easily coasted to the first win of the new season. MEN OF THE MATCH: G.Cook, Blue & C.Reid, Gold GAME 02: MAROON (0-1) vs. PINK (1-0)
Final Score: 85/81 to 82/81 for PINK Our second game of the night looked to be a bit of a walkaway for Pink as they opened up a lead and looked to be cruising to their first win. Maroon dug in their heels and when Pink went cold from the floor, they made their push. Led by Chris West (23pts) and Dallas LeBlanc (18pts), they stormed back into the game, pulling to within three in dying minutes of the second half. Bolstered by their big men, Mackenzie Carver (27pts) and Shane Slauenwhite (12pts), Pink was to tough to beat on this night and in the end escaped with the win. Because of the adjustment for the subs, Maroon did manage to steal a half point for the draw. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.West, Maroon & M.Carver, Pink GAME 03: GREEN (1-0) vs. PURPLE (0-1) Final Score: 56 to 54/51 for GREEN The final game of the night was a grind as both teams looked to find their rhythm on the court. Green came out with a big man lineup that stifled the the fast pace Purple team and the second lines battled back and forth looking to keep the spread manageable down the stretch. Austin Smith (13pts) and Tyson Uhlman (13pts) balanced out the Green teams offence while Michael O'Hearon (20pts) and Shaun West (10pts) countered for the Purple team. Purple tied the game with 13 seconds left but in the end clutch free throw shooting and rebounding allowed Green to escape with the win. MEN OF THE MATCH: A.Smith, Green & M.O'Hearon, Purple |
WEEK TWO: GETTING INTO THE FLOW
GAME 01: GOLD (2-0) vs. MAROON (0-2)
Final Score: 68 to 63/58 for GOLD Gold was looking to stay perfect in the early season clash while Maroon was looking to bounce back from a tough week one loss. Both teams dug in hard and at half time the game was up for grabs as both teams were finding their footing and creating opportunities. The second half saw Gold explode behind the fast break exploits of Josh Ernst (8pts) and Brady Gibson (16pts). Maroon, behind Dallas LeBlanc (11pts) tried to find a counter but couldn't seem to close the gap to where they could make up the difference. Maroon will have to wait one more week for their first win while Gold remains undefeated early in the season. MEN OF THE MATCH: B.Gibson, Gold & D.LeBlanc, Maroon GAME 02: BLUE (1-1) vs. GREEN (1-1)
Final Score: 83/77 to 59 for BLUE Green was looking to continue its defensive dominance while Blue was looking to get into the win column in this second week match-up. Both teams started tentatively and the score remained close for the opening shift but then Blue exploded, going on an impressive run, hitting everything while Green struggled to get the ball to fall. Tyson Uhlman (20pts) provided the lone offensive punch for the Green team who fell behind and never recovered from the one-two punch from Morgan Cole (20pts) and Kyle Lowe (17pts). Both teams now sit at equal footing and will look to pick up their second wins of the season next week. MEN OF THE MATCH: M.Cole, Blue & T.Uhlman, Green GAME 03: PINK (1-1) vs. PURPLE (1-1) Final Score: 64 to 35 for PURPLE Pink was missing their big gun from Week One and Purple was looking to rebound after a rough start to the season. Purple came out with new line-ups and with their balanced attack were able to find more opportunities and scoring. Pink tried to fill the hole left by their missing big man but unfortunately the long ball wasn't falling and Purple behind Zack Fancy (22pts), Cody DeLong (14pts) and Jack Slauenwhite (10pts) built up a lead they would never relent. Shane Slauenwhite (9pts) and Tyler Smith (9pts) tried to respond but in the end it was Purple who picked up their first win of the season. MEN OF THE MATCH: S.Slauenwhite, Pink & Z.Fancy, Purple |
WEEK THREE: SETTLING IN FOR THE LONG RUN
GAME 01: GREEN (1-2) vs. PINK (2-1)
Final Score: 65 to 64 for PINK The first game of the night was a beaut. Both teams were coming off their first losses of the season and were looking to get back in the winning ways. The pace of this game was frenetic at times as both teams tried to push the tempo and lock down their end of the court. While Pink attacked with their outside game led by Mackenzie Carver (17pts) and Jackson Richards (15pts), Green countered with their slashing attack led by Tyson Uhlman (16pts) and Austin Smith (14pts). In the dying minutes of the game Green was scrambling to cut the deficit but as the bell rang they came up short and fell by one to a very tough Pink team. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Barry, Green & J.Richards, Pink GAME 02: MAROON (1-2) vs. BLUE (1-2)
Final Score: 75 to 65/63 for MAROON Maroon was sitting winless coming into this game while Blue was coming off a huge game where they couldn't miss. Both teams exchanged early blow but then it became apparent that Blue wasn't having the same success from behind the line that they did in the previous game. Maroon began to build a lead behind their big two of Chris West (29pts) and Allan Smith (11pts) and despite strong games from Tristan Fancy (14pts) and Morgan Cole (12pts), Blue was never able to make up the difference. With the win Maroon climbs up the standings and guarantees no winless teams for this season. MEN OF THE MATCH: T.Fancy, Blue & C.Smith, Maroon GAME 03: GOLD (3-0) vs. PURPLE (1-2) Final Score: 83 to 56/55 for GOLD Gold was looking to stay undefeated while Purple was hoping to build off their success last week. Unfortunately without two of their top threats and rebounders, Purple quickly found themselves trailing, a deficit that they could never overcome. Gold saw everyone touch the scoreboard and were led by the tandem of Damon Wamboldt (17pts) and Justin Oickle (15pts) while Purple saw strong games from their guards, Cody DeLong (10pts) and Liam Sabean (11pts). Gold remained undefeated with a convincing win while Purple will hope to bounce back next week. MEN OF THE MATCH: J.Oickle, Gold & L.Sabean, Purple |
WEEK FOUR: WHERE DID EVERYBODY GO?
GAME 01: GOLD (4-0) vs. GREEN (1-3)
Final Score: 61 to 60/58 for GOLD (OT) Gold remained the only undefeated team coming into this week while Green was looking to get back in the win column after losing their last two. This game was a slog with both teams banging back and forth as they tried to take control of the game. With Green holding a slight lead coming down the stretch, Gold made a push and after a tough call, managed to tie the game at the free throw line to send the game into overtime. Overtime was a reflection of the game as once again Green fouled late and Gold hit one of two to clinch the win and remain undefeated. Green was led by Austin Smith (13pts) and Tyson Uhlman (10pts) while Gold was led to victory by Josh Ernst (13pts) and Damon Wamboldt (10pts). MEN OF THE MATCH: J.Ernst, Gold & A.Smith, Green GAME 02: BLUE (1-3) vs. PINK (3-1)
Final Score: 88 to 80/52 for PINK Another tight game that saw both teams playing tough from the opening tip but unlike the first game the ball was falling consistently through the next. Both teams would spend a lot of time behind the arc with a total of fourteen falling from long distance. Pink managed to get a little distance behind their consistent lines while Blue tried to find balance with a handful of subs topping out their line up. Super subs, Channing Carver (39pts) and Ryan Hirtle (12pts) paced the Blue attack while Pink had four players hit double figures, headed by Tyler Smith (23pts) and Mackenzie Carver (20pts). In the end, Pink kept all the points and managed to keep pace with the undefeated Gold team. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Carver, Blue & B.Lowe, Pink GAME 03: MAROON (1-3) vs. PURPLE (2-2) Final Score: 66 to 61 for PURPLE Purple was coming off one of the worst losses of the season and Maroon was rolling after getting into the win column for the first time. Both teams started off banging for the ball and it didn't look good for Purple as Chris West was hitting from long distance, a we mean long distance. Purple countered with a balanced attack, taking the ball hard to the hoop and getting everyone involved. Eventually Maroon slowed down and Purple built a lead that they wouldn't relinquish. Purple was spearheaded by Cody DeLong (13pts) and Michael O'Hearon (13pts) while Maroon saw Christ West (19pts) and Allan Carver (11pts) lead their comeback attempt. MEN OF THE MATCH: L.West, Maroon & S.West, Purple |
WEEK FIVE: MEET ME AT THE MIDWAY
GAME 01: BLUE (1-4) vs. PURPLE (3-2)
Final Score: 70 to 43/42 for PURPLE The first game of the night was a strange one as both teams volunteered to help referee since we were shorthanded. Blue was once again adjusting to a new team as they were shorthanded while Purple was featuring their full regiment once again. With their balanced attack Purple built up a sizeable lead that they would never relinquish. Every time Blue made a push Shaun West (22pts) and Cody DeLong (13pts) had an answer and so they managed to crawl above .550 before the mid-season mark. Evan Gibson (10pts) did manage to hit double figures as Blue will look to retool for the second half of the season. MEN OF THE MATCH: E.Gibson, Blue & S.West, Purple GAME 02: GREEN (1-4) vs. MAROON (2-3)
Final Score: 62/55 to 59 for MAROON Both teams were looking to avoid dropping to 1-4 and this game was a battle of wills. Neither team was willing to give an inch as they danced back and forth throughout the first half. With super-sub, Channing Carver (14pts) pushing the attack, Maroon knew that they had to win and win big. Green was looking to win outright and kept pushing Maroon down the stretch. Led by Austin Smith (15pts) and Nate Fancy (13pts) Green held close but with Allan Carver (12pts) and Chris West (10pts) crashing the boards, Maroon held on for the close victory. Green did steal one point in the end as both teams look to make moves in the second half of the season. MEN OF THE MATCH: N.Fancy, Green & A.Carver, Maroon GAME 03: GOLD (5-0) vs. PINK (2-3) Final Score: 86/81 to 61/58 for GOLD As we reached the halfway point of the season, Gold was looking to maintain it's undefeated record while Pink was looking to pull above the .500 marker going into the second half of the season. It was also a battle of two of the league's biggest big men in Damon Wamboldt and Mackenzie Carver. With Damon Wamboldt (16pts) spearheading the Young Guns lineup they surprised Pink with their tenacity and efficacy. Gold would cruise to the win while Pink struggled to find their footing. Tyler Smith (16pts) tried to keep them close but in the end, Gold's balance guided them to their fifth win of the season. MEN OF THE MATCH: D.Wamboldt, Gold & T.Smith, Pink |
WEEK SIX: INTO THE THICK OF IT
GAME 01: GREEN (1-5) vs. PURPLE (4-2)
Final Score: 82 to 61/60 for PURPLE Green was looking to start the second half but getting back in the winning ways against the team they beat in Week One but were in tough as they were missing three regulars. This was one of the smoothest games of the season as players played clean and hard. Fouls were at a minimum and offences were flowing throughout the entirety of the game. Purple would be blessed from distance with their big three: Michael O'Hearon (23pts), Zack Fancy (19pts) and Cody DeLong (17pts) hitting a combined 12 three pointers. Caleb Barry (26pts) led the Green attack by hitting everything he shot but it wasn't enough as Purple exacted revenge for their loss in the first game of the season. MEN OF THE MATCH: C.Barry, Green & B.Quist, Purple GAME 02: MAROON (3-3) vs. PINK (3-3)
Final Score: 83/80 to 67 for MAROON Maroon was looking to reach .500 while Pink was looking to avoid it as these two teams took the court. For most of the first half the game was close but slowly Maroon began to increase their lead. The second half saw Maroon, behind a very balanced attack, pull ahead of Pink a build a lead that they would never relinquish. Pink saw strong games from their big two of Mackenzie Carver (21pts) and Tyler Smith (21pts) but it wasn't enough to overcome Maroon who were led by their trio of Chris West (22pts), Aaron Frail (14pts) and Allan Carver (12pts). Maroon picked up the win a slipped past Pink in the standings for sole possession of third place. MEN OF THE MATCH: A.Frail, Maroon & T.Smith, Pink GAME 03: BLUE (1-5) vs. GOLD (6-0) Final Score: 82 to 79/75 for GOLD Gold has been an unstoppable force this season but Blue was featuring their new lineup with hopes that they would be able to put the first loss up on Gold this season. Gold started strong and opened a 22 point lead behind outstanding play from Caleb Reid (24pts) and Damon Wamboldt (24pts) but Blue stormed back in the second half led by Channing Carver (30pts) and Mason LaBelle (8pts) their mid-season acquisitions. Blue made Gold sweat out their free throws down the stretch and had a chance to send the game into overtime with a last second shot but it rimmed out and Gold remains perfect to start the second half of the season. MEN OF THE MATCH: M.LaBelle, Blue & C.Reid, Gold |
